Canine Regulation Project — Badge Commitments Outline

Three ways to pledge. Choose the one that fits, agree to the commitments, and your badge is on its way.

Owners

For anyone who lives with and loves a dog.

By signing, I agree that:

  • I will look past behaviour to the state underneath it. A dog that looks calm isn’t always regulated, and I want to understand the difference.
  • I accept that a still or quiet dog is not automatically a settled one, and I’ll keep learning to tell them apart.
  • I will pay attention to my own state, knowing my dog regulates off the people around them.
  • I understand the signatory badge is for personal, non-commercial use, remains the property of Confident Canine®, and should not be altered.

Canine Regulation is a project run by Confident Canine®. When you receive your badge, you might notice the Confident Canine® logo at the top of the email. Signing the pledge adds you only to the Canine Regulation mailing list, not the Confident Canine® general mailing list, so you will only ever receive news about the pledge, the Awareness Week and related updates, nothing else. You can leave whenever you like by hitting the unsubscribe button the top of any email received.

Individual Professionals (trainers, behaviourists)

For those who work with dogs and want to show clients what they stand for.

By applying for the badge, I agree that:

  • Regulation comes first. I see and work with the dog’s state before the behaviour, every time.
  • I stay attentive to the dog’s state throughout, not just at the start. State shifts moment to moment, and my approach shifts with it.
  • I pay attention to my own state as part of the work, knowing dogs co-regulate with the people around them.
  • I do not use, recommend or endorse aversive or punishing tools or methods. This includes, but is not limited to: shock/e-collars, prong or choke chains, alpha-rolls or physical corrections, spray bottles or citronella devices, and intimidation-based handling.
  • I understand approval to display the badge may be withdrawn at any time, at Confident Canine®’s sole discretion, and if asked to remove it I will do so from everywhere it appears, promptly and within 14 days.
  • I understand the badge remains the property of Confident Canine, must not be altered, recoloured or combined with other marks without permission, and that displaying it does not imply endorsement of my business, services or products beyond the pledge commitment itself.

Organisations & Businesses (clubs, rescues, academies, brands)

For organisations that want to stand behind the standard publicly.

By applying for the badge, we agree that:

  • Regulation comes first in our practice and our messaging. We put the dog’s state before the behaviour.
  • We stay attentive to each dog’s state throughout our work, not just at the outset.
  • We do not knowingly use, promote, sell or endorse aversive or punishing tools or methods. This includes, but is not limited to: shock/e-collars, prong or choke chains, physical corrections, or intimidation-based handling. If we sell equipment, we do not stock aversive tools as part of our range.
  • We understand approval to display the badge may be withdrawn at any time, at Confident Canine®’s sole discretion, and if asked to remove it we will do so from everywhere it appears, promptly and within 14 days.
  • We understand the badge remains the property of Confident Canine, must not be altered, recoloured or combined with other marks without permission, and that displaying it does not imply endorsement of our organisation, services or products beyond the pledge commitment itself.

A note on your email

We ask for an email address so we can send your badge and so we can reach you about the pledge if we ever need to. We won’t sell it or pass it on. That’s it.
